ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Jacques

WHERE I AM TODAY
I can't believe that I’ve now served almost 4 years on the Grand County Commission. It’s been a truly awesome and humbling experience. I’ve learned so much, served on some great boards, made many difficult decisions, and met so many great people. I’m especially thankful to my fellow commissioners, who have trusted me enough to elect me Chair for the last 3 years. It is this experience and leadership that I’m excited about bringing back to the Commission for 4 more years.
WHERE I COME FROM
I spent my childhood in the Washington DC area and in East Africa where my parents were missionaries. I attended College at the University of Colorado and graduated with a BA in Classics in 1990. I spent the next 10 years moving around, living on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, Charlottesville, Virginia and Tucson Arizona, gaining experience in management and the bike industry. I’ve also spent the last 25 years traveling the world when I had time and money, spending time in Southeast Asia, South America, Central America, the Caribbean and especially in Mexico. I love learning and experiencing other cultures, meeting people and eating new foods.
A THRIVING CAREER
I originally came to Moab to work as a mountain bike guide in 2000 and fell in love with the desert and community here. I continued to work here seasonally for a few years before making a permanent move. I became the General Manager of Moab Cyclery and Escape Adventures in spring of 2009 and my wife and I purchased our home here that summer. My first daughter was born in 2011 and my second in 2014. My oldest attends MLK Middle School and my youngest attends HMK Elementary School. My family and I love Southeast Utah and spend most of our free time exploring the area by boat, van, bike, rope and on foot. We are committed to this community and the beautiful land in and around Grand County.
